Brief IntroductionProfessor Dr. Jeyraj Selvaraj received the B.Eng. (Hons.) degree from Multimedia University, Malaysia, in 2002, the M.Sc. degree in power electronics and drives jointly from the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, U.K., and the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K., in 2004, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2009. He is currently a professor and deputy director of University Malaya Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), University of Malaya. He has involved in the field of solar energy for 20 years. He has done more than 75 onsite inverter test under the FiT, LSS and NEM scheme in Malaysia. He is also a member of IEEE, IEM and a member of working group committee on Photovoltaic Standards of Department of Standards Malaysia. He is one of the recipient of NAM research training fellowship for young scientist and Royal Academy Engineering UK’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowship in 2016 and 2017 respectively. In 2019 he was awarded the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme Fellowship followed by Asian Universities Alliance Scholarship in 2020. He has been awarded Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) by Academy of Science Malaysia in 2024. His research focuses on power electronics for renewable energy systems, energy storage systems and photovoltaic thermal systems. Professor Dr. Jeyraj’s pioneering research has earned recognition on both academia and industry, placing him amongst the top 2% of the world’s most highly cited scientists. He has authored over 100 publications in various reputable journals.

Areas of Expertise:1) Advanced microalgae biofuels, 2) conversion of biowaste into bioenergy, 3) application of various methods to improve bioconversion efficiency, 4) production of biofuels from microalgae and seaweed biomass, 5) wastewater treatment, 6) monitoring of the impact of microplastics on microorganisms in various environments, 7) Developing biosensors based on microbial fuel cell (MFCs) systems for heavy metal detection and degradation of refractory compounds; 8) Apply omics and synthetic biology to gain insight into microbial species interactions in anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD).

Brief Introduction: Prof. El-Sayed Salama obtained his BSc degree in 2008 at the Faculty of Science, Benha University (Egypt). He pursued MSc and PhD degrees in 2016 from the Department of Earth Resources and Environmental Engineering, Hanyang University (South Korea). Followed by 3 years of working experience as a Post-Doc and Assistant Professor in the same department “under BK21 plus”, funded by the Korean government. He was also hired as a Young Talent Professor from 2018 to 2023 (under the Recruitment of High-Level Foreign Talents, Category A)” at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, Public Health School, Lanzhou University (LZU) (China).

In Sept. 2023, Prof. Salama was promoted to a full Professor (level 4, under the Recruitment Program of Global Experts) in LZU and a leader of the Green Environmental and Energy Laboratory (GEEL). He has potential contributions to the scientific society (>130 SCI papers, 7 patents, 2 books, 1 technology transfer, and 50 invited talks). His publications appeared in top-tier journals (such as Progress in Energy & Combustion Science, Trends in Plant Science, Trends in Microbiology, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Chemical Engineering Journal, and Water Research).

Prof. Salama was listed in the top 2% of Scientists Worldwide by Stanford University for three consecutive years. He was also selected as the “Distinguished Expert of Science and Technology in the Ecological Industry” of Gansu Province and a member of the “Gansu Society of Microbiology” (China). He is acting as an Editor, Associate Editor, and Editorial Board Member of several international journals. He is also represented as general chair, session chair, and international committee member of international conferences. His research team at GEEL-LZU focuses on “Bioenvironmental Sciences and Bioenergy”.
